On 17 May 2010 the Government announced its plan for a financial assistance package aimed at getting get leaky homes repaired faster. Under the proposal, central government would meet 25% of agreed repair costs for eligible homes, with local authorities contributing 25% and home owners funding the remaining 50%, backed by a loan guarantee underwritten by the Government, provided applicants can meet bank lending criteria.
